Jaipur: Indian pharmacist association (IPA) Rajasthan has written to chief minister Ashok Gehlot and union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya demanding police protection for drug control officers (DCO), who are allegedly under threat from the increasing drug mafia in the state.
IPA, Rajasthan state president, Sarveshwar Sharma, said, “The drug mafia sells drugs and threatens the officials when action is taken."
Under the drug and cosmetic act 1940 and rule 1945, NDPS medicines should not be sold without a doctor’s prescription and without a pharmacist.

The drug mafia sells drugs like sleeping pills, a bottle of codeine illegally, which is ruining the young generation. The drug mafia’s increasing hold and grandeur is wrong.”
The state branch of IPA said that the drug control officers feel unsafe and threatened. “Police protection is important for them,” added Sharma.
